3 Lessons I’ve Learned From Gardening

My first garden experience…I was newly pregnant with Kai and so sick!

I mustered up the strength and went to Lowe’s with Stephen to buy some wood and take home a few simple easy plants to start my very first garden as an adult. Stephen built a planter box for me, and I planted a few tomatoes and peppers.

That garden became my solitude, a place I visited every day, even when I was feeling nauseous and awful. I couldn’t even eat the food I’d grown because it didn’t sit well with me, if ya know what I mean. 🤮

Fast forward to today, and my garden still gives me so much pride and joy!

Each year, I experiment with growing something new. This year, I added wayyy more flowers and want to continue learning about growing cut flowers. Each year, I grow in my confidence as a gardener. Plus, I love getting the boys involved and showing them everything we’re growing as a family.

Here Are Three Lessons I’ve Learned From Gardening:

  1. You just have to start: My garden even now isn’t pretty or Pinterest-worthy. Starting is sometimes the hardest thing and it take time and work to grow anything good.
  2. You have to pull the weeds: I weekly or almost daily I pull out weeds that don’t belong. Sometimes the weeds even look like a growing flower but if you look closely they are different.
  3. Confidence: Just like anything good, it takes time to build your confidence. I’ve had to nurture my plants year after year, ask for help when I don’t know and trust the process that if I water the garden, take out the weeds and plant in good soil, I’ll grow something beautiful over time!

Other gardener friends, what is something you have learned about growing a garden?
